Pencils
Any good pencils are fine. Have at least one each of HB, 2B and 4B (two of each is better).
- Tombow MONO Drawing Pencil Set — my favorite pencils
- Staedtler Mars Lumograph Pencil Set — also great
Paper
Basic paper for sketching, good paper for longer projects. One or two sheets per class.
- Canson XL Mix Media Pad, 11 x 14 in — basic sketching paper
- Strathmore 500 Series Bristol, 11 x 14 in — good paper for longer projects
- Canson Tracing Paper, 11 x 14 in
- Canson XL Newsprint Pad — for gesture drawing
Drawing Board
A board 16 x 20 in or 18 x 24 in holds your reference and paper.
- Drawing board
- Board clips — 6 to 8 in varying sizes; binder clips are fine
- Artist tape — or painter's blue tape
- Mahl stick / back scratcher — perfect for keeping your hand off the paper
Erasers + Sharpeners
- Tombow Mono Zero Eraser — fine detail
- Staedtler Mars Plastic Eraser — must have
- General's Kneaded Eraser — must have
- AFMAT Long Point Pencil Sharpener — for the studio
- Kum Long Point Pencil Sharpener — for travel
Additional Materials
