Overlooking the Hudson River, with 250-acres of artist-designed landscape and sweeping views of the Catskills, Olana is the perfect place to get artistic inspiration! Join us on Saturday, September 24th for the Olana Plein Air Festival. During this day-long festival open to artists of all skill levels, participants are invited to bring their own supplies and materials to paint outdoors throughout Olana. This event is held in partnership with Olana State Historic Site, and Drawing America.

Workshop Description

In this workshop Dominique will demonstrate how to create a composition that captures the light and mood of the landscape. We will learn how to see the color and shapes in a simple way and work with a painting process That makes it manageable and fun. Paint along or after the demo is done. Dominique will critique your work and answer your questions as you paint.

What will you learn?

  1. Watch Dominique demo and show you a process of painting in clear and consecutive steps.

  2. Learn how to compose a painting and block in the major shapes and colors

  3. We will use the basics of color theory to learn a simple color mixing process.

  4. Learn to accurately and consistently mix any color in just 3 steps.

  5. Use a chromatic primary palette of 7 colors that is designed to help you master color.

Is this workshop for me?

This workshop is open to all levels. Skill level is not that important although basic drawing and color theory skills are a plus.
