Course Outline:

Mastering color is key to your development as an artist. We will work from master copies, photographs and models and spend the week investigating color in portraiture. We will look at the relationships between hue, value, chroma and temperature. We will learn a simple process that is designed to help us understand how to consistently mix any color in only a few steps.

I will start with a demo and break down the process of painting into clear and consecutive steps. I will critique and instruct each session. We will be using a chromatic palette of 7 colors; Titanium White, Cadmium Yellow Light, Cadmium Red Light, Quinacridone Red, Cobalt Teal, Ultramarine Blue and Ivory Black. This dynamic palette helps us refine our understanding of color relationships. Practicing this way sharpens your observation, and takes your skill to a new level.
