Art Students League of New York, NYC

May 20-24 2019

9:00am -12:30pm

(Monday-Friday)

Tuition: $425

All Levels Welcome

Course Outline:

When we copy a master painting we step into the mind of the artist. We gain insight and understanding by following in their footsteps. When working with a disciplined method we learn about technique and process, about structure, form, value, color and edge. Perhaps more importantly, we learn patience and focus. It is a combination of all these things that leads us not just to a deeper appreciation of art and skill but of our own potentialities. There will be a variety of Old Master’s Prints to choose from. We will develop paintings from them over the course of 5 days by starting with a drawing, then transferring to a panel/canvas, establishing an underpainting and finally go into full color. It is bound to be both aesthetically and intellectually fulfilling.
