Workshop Description

Dominique will demonstrate a 4 step portrait painting process and discuss strategies for capturing the essence of our subject. Students will use their own photo reference of a family member, mentor, or someone who’s had a meaningful impact on their lives. The focus will be on painting techniques that capture the sitter's essential traits. To aid with this process we will also do brief writing exercises and discussions to facilitate deeper understanding of our subject. Each session students receive critique and guidance. This is a rare opportunity to delve deep into the subtleties of the painting process

Dominique will provide daily demos, breaking down the process of painting into clear and consecutive steps, as well as critique and instruct each session. We will work with a systematic technique and use a limited palette of 7 colors. A dynamic palette that will help us refine our understanding of color relationships. We will focus on the 4 main aspects of a portrait: Proportion, Value, Color, and Edge. Practicing this way will sharpen your observation and take your skill to a new level. www.dominiquemedici.com
