Class Description | Painting Self-Portraits with a Limited Palette
January 6, 13, 20, 27 (4 Sessions)
9:30–11:30am PT / 12:30–2:30pm EST
Painting a self-portrait invites us to slow down, look deeply, and discover something new in a face we think we know so well. As self-consciousness gives way to curiosity, we begin to notice subtle relationships of proportion, value, color, and edge that we may have overlooked.
This month, we'll explore the time-honored practice of self-portraiture using a limited palette and a clear, systematic four-step process.
What you'll learn:
Develop accurate proportions and capture a convincing likeness.
Observe subtle shifts in skin tones, temperature, and saturation.
Use value and edge relationships to create convincing form.
Strengthen your observation skills and paint with greater sensitivity and confidence.
Each week includes a narrated, step-by-step demonstration and individual critiques. We'll work toward creating a self-portrait that reflects not only what we look like, but how we see.
Open to all levels; some drawing experience is helpful.
Tuition: $210
