Course Description:  

It is often said that value does all the work but color gets all the credit.  

Value studies can stand on their own as finished works or be used to develop a color painting. In both cases using a monochromatic palette facilitates a deeper appreciation of value structure and form. An understanding of value is an essential preparation for working in color.  

Working from still life, photos and a live model, we will be using a monochromatic palette during this 5 day Intensive. Our lessons will focus on composition, structure, value, brush handling, rendering form and edge work. 

Daily class demos and discussion will break down the process of painting into clear and consecutive steps. Individual instruction will be given each session. This week is bound to take your skills to a new level.
